I work to help people feel safe in my office so that we can explore together the issues that bring them in. My work is grounded in the idea that we are fundamentally social beings who want and need to connect to ourselves and others. Whether I am working with an individual or a family, I am thinking about the nature of those relationships: How safe are they? How do people express love, upset, and understanding? How do they manage conflict?

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Working with marriage and couples issues has been a focus of my work for the past 20 years. After graduating from The Ackerman Institute of Family Therapy, I have done further training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT is a wonderfully helpful model that shows couples – and me! – why people are get ‘stuck’ in repetitive negative cycles and how to get out of them. In addition to being a practitioner, I am on staff at Bellevue Hospital/NYU Medical Center where I teach young psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers about couples and family therapy.
