My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
I am a warm, straightforward therapist focused on providing effective treatment. I work to connect genuinely with each of my patients because I believe the first component of effective treatment is the formation of a trusting, nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship. With this relationship as the foundation, we can then collaboratively determine your goals and take measurable steps toward achieving the change you want in your life.
The choice to begin therapy is a courageous one. I consider it a great privilege to partner with people as they work to improve various aspects of their lives. I provide a safe, empathetic, and warm environment to encourage exploration and personal growth. Everyone entering therapy has a unique set of goals; I work to meet those specific needs and desires through an eclectic approach of interpersonal, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and solution-focused therapy. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement, PTSD, and substance abuse.
Many aspects of life can be challenging, and we all struggle at times, but you don't have to struggle alone. Therapy can offer a safe space to work through emotional barriers, ultimately leading to a greater sense of meaning, growth, and fulfillment. I also think every person’s story and style is unique, which is why I prefer an integrative approach to therapy, utilizing and blending different clinical frameworks suited to each client. Whether you are new to therapy or have been before, your mental health is nothing to take for granted, and I encourage you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we might be a good fit. I work with adults of all ages, including working professionals, artists, and students, spanning a variety of different backgrounds. Common issues I've worked with include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, life transitions, work stress, shame, addiction, or finding a greater sense of meaning and purpose. My philosophy is also based on a wellness model, which means I don’t focus too heavily on pathology or diagnoses. I value the mindset that we are all striving to reach our own potential in different ways, and all possess unique strengths as well as areas for growth. My hope is to create a safe and collaborative space together, where we can really work on the issues that matter most. Engaging in therapy is an act of courage and strength, and my aim is to work together to ultimately help you reach your goals.

My approach is supportive, patient and at the same time action oriented. I have trained in a variety of therapeutic models, ie. Gottman, Neurobiology, EFT and Psychodynamic therapy. These various models help me have the tools to best help the individual needs of each couple. I believe in the uniqueness of each situation and have the skills to work with diverse problems and strengths. The couples and individuals I work with leave sessions with new ways of thinking and behaving in the service of more positive sense of self and relations. I believe some change is always possible for everyone. In my work with adults and couples using a variety of skill building techniques to help them reach their goals, dreams and stop repeating self defeating patterns. I work with women's issues including weight and body image, reproductive issues, parenting, and midlife and menopausal changes. I work with men on increasing their feelings of success and adequacy. I am interested in helping clients incorporate healthy life approaches into their individual and couples experience. I have extensive experience in psychotherapy and relationship counseling. I have been an adjunct instructor at NYU Silver School of Social Work for 16 years and I also supervise other therapists.
I am excited to start each session with my clients, picking up from our conversation last week, or exploring something new. Therapy is easier, and frankly more fun, when therapeutic work doesn't feel like a chore. I work with individuals, couples, and families to explore new perspectives and practice new solutions. I primarily use systemic therapies, which help us understand issues within different contexts, like family, work, or culture. By understanding your daily life, and your systems, we can explore how to evolve smaller solutions so they feel achievable. Each time we talk, we build upon our therapy goals, moving with life. Communication is everything in couples therapy. Combining our goals, or empathizing with past injuries, requires finding new ways to talk, and listen. Often the beginning of couples work requires building trust to believe and understand one another. I utilize Gottman Method and emotion-focused work to help couples to connect to shared goals and to each other. For individuals, I commonly work with mood conditions (anxiety, depression, etc.), as well as exploring familial or social relationships. Solution-focused work helps with managing symptoms and finding smaller achievements that build into bigger change over time. It's then important to evolve those solutions in natural systems, like family or work contexts.
I work collaboratively with clients to empower them to identify and move through the issues that stand between them and the lives they hope to lead. I bring a unique approach that blends evidence-based, solution oriented strategies with acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) techniques to help clients foster connection, community, and meaning. I operate from a strengths based perspective and prioritize a space of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and respect. I am a first-generation Latina fluent in both Spanish and English. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

You know what you want to achieve, but need additional support in navigating the stresses of setting off on this new path. Or maybe you want help in redefining the roles your family members and loved ones have in your life as you walk towards adulthood in a chaotic world. Maybe you have started your own family and made the decision to become a parent. You may want to parent differently than your parents, but are unsure how. You might be experiencing anxiety around being responsible for a vulnerable new human being. Children can be mirrors, reflecting our own experiences of childhood back onto us. Perhaps past painful experiences of not having your own needs met in childhood are bubbling up and you want to have a safe space to process and explore those experiences. Perhaps you are noticing that your child is experiencing challenges. They may have learning or attentional difficulties, are struggling to navigate difficult life transitions, or are acting out and appear to be overwhelmed with big emotions they don't know how to manage. Whatever issue is bringing either you or your child to therapy, I believe you also bring with your own unique strengths and abilities. My approach as a therapist is to first focus on developing a relationship built upon mutual respect that allows you to feel safe, supported, and heard. In sessions, my goal is to empower you to take the lead and choose the direction therapy will take. Therapy is a place where you can explore both your strengths and challenges, ask questions, and take risks. My therapy approach is client-centered, trauma informed, and strengths based.
