If you're ready to make a change, I can help. Sessions are dynamic and change-oriented. Working together I will assist you in gaining an awareness of the faulty thinking that stems from your past and learn to replace negative thinking patterns with a more positive, realistic outlook. We'll get to the root of what's fueling your struggles, and then we'll work toward applying new ideas to help you create healthier behaviors and pursue happiness more effectively. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a humanistic approach, I can assist you in looking at yourself and the world with a new perspective. You'll experience relief from symptoms, change self-defeating behaviors, and enjoy better quality relationships. My goal is to help you actively and effectively create sustainable change in your life. People tell me that they experience more self-compassion and less self-blame through their work with me.
My approach to helping is collaborative. I hope that you and I can work as a team to explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships, and family history. I want us to understand your needs, triggers, strengths, and coping strategies. I not only want to understand your past, but see how you manage your daily life and reach future goals. I am an interactive therapist. I want you to feel heard, understood, and respected. Therapy is not easy and we will have to face your struggles. Therefore I want you to feel safe and comfortable. I work with honesty and transparency. We will evaluate your progress to make sure that you are working in the direction of your goals and my approach fits you. I believe therapy works best if it's consistent and weekly. With effort and determination you are likely to see positive results.
You don’t have to carry it alone. Whether you’re healing from trauma, navigating depression or anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, therapy can help you find clarity, relief, and connection. Through mutually defined goals and a trusting therapeutic relationship, I will help you relieve your suffering. I have successfully helped clients heal from anxiety issues, panic attacks, phobias, intense grief, behavioral challenges, dysfunctional relationships, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), addictions, depression, and eating issues. I have 28 years of clinical experience and was the director of a licensed outpatient clinic for 10 years. I use a variety of clinical techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, self-psychology, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, and psychoanalytic therapy based on your specific and individual needs.
My approach to therapy is humanistic, collaborative, and creative. I work alongside my clients to help them explore relationship patterns (with self and others), examine complicated feelings, and build self-confidence. My role is to facilitate my clients' movement towards change, and to help them reach their individual goals. I'm an engaged listener. I allow space for reflection and empathy while bringing focus on my clients' strengths. I combine traditional talk therapy with art making to help my clients gain a greater understanding of themselves. I believe creativity and self-expression are keys to growth that lead to insight. Creativity allows for self-expression, and helps to externalize inner thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, self-esteem issues, and relationship issues. I'm passionate about adoption and attachment-related issues. I love working with adoptees of all ages who are interested in exploring their personal experiences.
I specialize in work with gay men. Are you worried that most therapists will not truly understand you, or that you will have to censor yourself in therapy because you are a gay man? I had these same concerns, and they motivated me to become a psychotherapist who could help others like me. We will work together in a safe and relaxing environment to discover and actualize the solutions you need in order to live a more fulfilling life. With 20 years of clinical experience, I have honed a comprehensive approach that ensures each session addresses your specific needs and goals, helping you achieve meaningful and lasting change. To achieve this, I integrate a variety of therapeutic techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), internal family systems, and Zen therapy. I am also a certified sex therapist. The foundation of our work together is the strong therapeutic relationship we build.
I'm interested in you and your unique mix of strengths and challenges, both external and internal. All that is specific to you that will unlock greater fulfillment, more satisfying relationships, and increased peace and joy - that is what we're after! Ultimately, we'll work together to uncover how to leverage your strengths and integrate your challenges to foster more happiness and purpose. Clients who work with me gain a clearer understanding of what is really going on for them and what is happening in their relationships. They are then able to find ways to make positive changes in their thoughts, assessments, and actions, resulting in greater functioning in their lives and more effective self-expression. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in patterns, hurt, or in pain, you don’t have to go it alone. I offer a thoughtful, grounded, and relational space where you can bring your authentic self and feel genuinely supported. Sessions are available at a variety of times, including evenings, weekends, and mornings. I invite you to reach out to schedule a Free 15-minute Video Consultation to see if I might be the right therapist for you!
Every individual is a compilation of their genetics, early learned behavior, primary identifications, patterning, and life experience. Psychotherapy is a guide to identifying and mapping these factors, appreciating the ones that serve well as well as learning to work with and restructure those that, born of dysfunction, continue to cause unhappiness and anxiety. Psychotherapy is a mutual process, where a therapist acts as pilot for navigating what is brought by the patient - the co-pilot. It is the patient's job to think about and gradually share their experiences and thoughts while it is the therapist's job to listen carefully, comment effectively, and guide the patient to a better understanding of the lines that have shaped them. Verbalization leads to consciousness, and the chance to choose alternate ways of coping with situations and relationships. Out of cognition comes actions which lead to character changes. These can help a person to better reach their life goal and personal fulfillment, be these goals relationship, career, familial, financial or spiritual.
You've worked hard to build a successful career and establish yourself as a respected professional. People know you as someone competent, dependable, and always finds a way forward—a person of unwavering integrity. On the outside, you appear calm and in control, but inside, you carry a quiet, invisible burden: the constant pressure to get everything right, hide your fears, and stay productive—even when you're overwhelmed. You rarely give yourself permission to rest, set boundaries, or ask for help—leaving your own needs hidden beneath the surface. The behaviors and emotional patterns that bring you to therapy are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are ways you learned to cope and protect yourself in response to your earliest experiences with caregivers. Healing doesn't come from pushing yourself to do more—it begins with understanding these adaptations with compassion and gently helping your nervous system discover what true safety and connection can feel like. My approach is collaborative and attuned. We'll bring gentle curiosity to your experiences, exploring how your protective patterns once helped you survive and shaped the way you relate to yourself and others—always at a pace that feels safe and supportive. Together, we'll integrate somatic practices, mindfulness, and experiential work to cultivate safety, connection, and self-trust—laying the groundwork for meaningful, lasting change.
I believe in the power of people. I believe all people have within us the power to fuel great amounts of suffering, to secretly endure vast amounts of pain, and, thankfully, with the right conditions - to be able to heal ourselves and rediscover our unlimited potential. This is what I have learned through my own healing journeys, what I have seen in decades of work with various different people in NYC, and what I continue to see and be inspired by in each of the people and couples I work with now in psychotherapy. I am not a fan of the modern "medical model" of mental illness, which seems to come more and more from power dynamics in our current society and economy more than a deep understanding of the human condition and what it means to become one's true, best self in a complicated world. Rather, I embrace the perspective that our "symptoms" and "disorders" are actually useful clues to how we are out of balance with our best selves, and they become useful signposts which light one's own personal path to healing. I believe there is much out of balance with our modern human society and that this has effects on all of us. I believe our species is social by nature - that relationships sustain us, heal us, and also can be where we feel pains most sharply. The very things which allow us to connect with others are also those which make us vulnerable to injury. Most of us have been affected by our childhoods, times of dependence on others, etc. in ways which may have altered our own ability to even know our own true best self: how to find it, nurture it, support it, and have it thrive in balanced connections with the outside world. I have found the deeply personal process of psychotherapy to be the single most effective way to find, heal and care for our best selves.
I view therapy as a collaborative process to which we both bring insight, feedback, expertise. Your experience and growth is central to the process and my goal is to facilitate a rewarding and productive process for you. Whether you are grappling with anxiety, sadness, conflict, fear, or any other human experience, I will approach the issue with curiosity, warmth and honesty.
