In-person evening or weekend therapy available in Scarsdale, White Plains, and Mahopac. I help couples and adults work through relationship conflict, emotional distance, sexual concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), alcohol-related concerns, men’s issues, and patterns that keep repeating. Some people come in with a partner. Others come in alone because mood, drinking, trauma, anger, avoidance, or relationship stress is affecting the life they want. My work is practical, direct, and focused on understanding what gets stuck, so we can work on what needs to change.
Are you stuck in a cycle of anger, guilt, and shame that never seems to break — despite trying to manage it on your own? Have you tried anger classes or white-knuckling it, only to find yourself back in the same patterns? Struggling with anxiety that fuels the fire? I work with adults throughout via secure video or in person, with a particular passion for working with men — including those new to therapy who aren't sure what to expect. A licensed Psychologist and national authority on anger management, I bring 20+ years of experience helping people tame their anger and ease their anxiety. I specialize in men's therapy and offer individual therapy and couples counseling — with a direct, no-nonsense approach that gets to the root of your issues for real, lasting change. If you're exhausted from trying to manage your anger alone, you don't have to keep white-knuckling it. Whether you're new to therapy or have tried it before, I'll meet you where you are — with honesty, warmth, and no judgment. Let's talk and find out if we're a good fit to help you become a calmer, more grounded version of yourself. Although I help clients with many issues and goals, I am considered a national authority on anger management and anger therapy. I have over 20 years or experience, 7 years of specialized education, and intensive training in anger management, anxiety and other psychotherapy treatments.
Kendra’s therapeutic style is holding, curious, and transparent. Utilizing psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing techniques, Kendra specializes in helping young adults and adults navigate depression, anxiety, and life transitions. She also uniquely works with athletes and “former” athletes, exploring themes of identity and perfectionism.
Many of my clients come to therapy for help with relationships, and are frustrated that they repeat patterns but don't have an alternative. I believe relationships are central to life and I also know that much of what we learn about how to relate comes from childhood. Often we've outgrown certain ways of interacting, but it can be hard to know what or how to do things differently. My approach to therapy is collaborative and leans heavily on curiosity. I don't see therapy as a place to "get fixed" but a place to explore, learn, and embrace who you are. In order to do things differently, we need to understand ourselves, and this requires an open, non-judgmental a mind. Of course it can feel difficult and even scary to learn about yourself or discover new things, so I will work at your pace and refer to you as the expert on your experiences. I have great respect for our ability to heal and grow if given the opportunity and a safe space to do so. I believe we are all capable of living a life that aligns with who we authentically are, not the person we created to make the world happy.
Difficult emotions are a part of being human. But when anxiety, depression, or painful relationships begin to feel overwhelming, it can be hard to find your way forward. Psychotherapy offers a supportive space to feel more grounded, build self-confidence, and begin to heal from the inside out. For over 30 years, I’ve been dedicated to helping people reduce anxiety, strengthen self-esteem, and navigate life’s challenges with more clarity and resilience. My approach blends psychodynamic therapy with insights from neuroscience, helping clients understand how emotional experiences are shaped by both psychological and biological factors. Together, we work toward tools and strategies that help regulate emotions—even those that feel unbearable. In both individual and couples therapy, I offer a collaborative, nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly and feel truly heard. I work with adults of all sexual orientations and identities, and I bring special expertise in supporting LGBTQ+ clients. In couples therapy, I welcome people in traditional marriages, open relationships, and polyamorous partnerships. Please visit my website to learn more about me and the way that I work. We can also have a ten-minute chat to see if I'm the right fit for you.

I am a compassionate, experienced psychologist, in practice for over 35 years. I have been fortunate to have a vocation that is my avocation; and, relatedly, I expend substantial effort in ever-broadening my skills so that I can be as effective as possible in helping my clients reach their goals. In addition to clients that I help in my practice as a therapist, I enjoy helping others through the self-help books that I write for adults, and for children and their parents.
Perhaps your relationships, career, or creative pursuits are not going as you would like. Challenges around identity and sense of self may be plaguing you. You may feel bogged down by feeling frustrated, unmotivated, anxious, overwhelmed, guilty, ashamed, or sad. Whatever your struggles, together we can help you better understand what’s going on and what may be getting in the way of change. I take as a basic premise that you are more than a collection of symptoms or a problem to be fixed, and believe that all you bring to the table deserves our full attention and exploration. My approach is individualized and interactive, with a focus on long-term, sustainable change. I bring to my work substantive training, many years of practice, and patience, empathy, curiosity, humor, and reliability. I am dedicated to working with people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities, and am well-versed, particularly in work with creatives, ex-pats, transcultural couples, adult children of immigrants and third culture kids, biracial men and women, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, and non-binary individuals and their families. Areas of special interest to me include relationship difficulties, loneliness, identity issues, creative blocks, loss, struggles with self-compassion, and family estrangement. Self-knowledge is good medicine. Therapy takes courage, but can promote dramatic growth and help you attain a greater sense of well-being and a freer and more satisfying life. (For more information about my training, my philosophy, and how I can help, please visit my website.)
It may be a little unorthodox to introduce my practice to you on a negative note. But the truth is that what brought me to Goodtherapy was..."not-good therapy"! My own, as patient. With an intelligent, highly trained practitioner, who knows how to practice good therapy...and didn't. This got me thinking: How is it that good therapists go...off track? Gold standard skills, compassion, caring, empathy...are, evidently, not enough. I believe I found the missing piece. To be a good therapist is to be humble. Humility in action is the foundation of safety and success in treatment. Humility keeps a therapist open, curious, and honest - and keeps this honesty respectful. It acknowledges your power as a patient - to really let me know how my words and actions affect you, knowing this helps me help you. Emotional pain is rooted in lived experience, and only new experience can touch it. Symptoms are distressing, but feeling trapped, alone, or unreachable within them is...unbearable. It's likely that the emotional events that caused your distress were experienced in this way: Alone and unbearable. Therapy is a healing conversation, and it heals by giving you a new experience, one that unfolds as you relate your experience to me, and I relate to you. So we undo your aloneness together; you'll find me respectfully wondering about little things I notice, moment to moment, as you tell your story - the glimpses of feeling that accompany your words - the music of your problem, so to speak. This is a gentle process, and very, very powerful. It orients you to yourself and your "problem" in a new way - with safety, sometimes surprising speed, and depth. Humility in action give me the power to heal, and is the basis of the two models I rely on to help others (Sue Johnson's EFT for couples and families, and Diana Fosha's AEDP for individuals. "Undoing aloneness" is a term of Dr. Fosha's). This site provides good information on both.
