I like to think of therapy as helping you to construct a life "tool kit" which will continue to develop long after the therapy is over. Our work would involve creative problem-solving. I am interested in people's capacities to be competent and decisive in addressing life's challenges. Learning and development do not stop in childhood; they continue throughout the lifespan. Creating a therapeutic plan involves trained information-gathering, as well as expertise in assessment. The plan and process need to "speak" realistically to you, in order to promote learning of new skills and varied ways to address problems. I am a careful, respectful listener, who interacts actively with patients, young and old. Over 20+ years, I have learned how a thorough review of biological and psychological factors and their interplay is central to working effectively. . I believe in therapy being practical and useful. In my work with adults, children, parents, and couples, I am flexible and, as warranted, use a variety of modalities: biofeedback, bibliotherapy, play/art therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral treatment, animal-assisted therapy, journaling, visualization, breath training. When relevant, I work with other professionals, e.g. physicians, teachers etc..
