My Approach to Helping

We all need outlets to relieve stress—to talk, vent, or figure things out. Everyone can benefit from the relief that a supportive therapy experience can provide; and it’s my goal to offer that to everyone I work with. You may be experiencing a life transition that you’re unsure of how to navigate or chronic worry about the future or strained relationships with people in your life. Whatever your concern, therapy can help. Therapy has the potential to be a part of your toolkit for support and reprieve. In our sessions we’ll explore the development of your concerns and create strategies for how to navigate them. Together we’ll work to decrease the impact that stress is having on your life. The foundation of my approach is a genuine desire to ensure you feel understood and cared for. In doing so, we are able to create a collaborative process that honors your knowledge of self and my knowledge of psychological theory and practice.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Therapy is all about you. It is likely one of the few spaces where spending a large amount of time talking about yourself is not only okay, but encouraged. Therapy may be awkward or difficult at first, which makes sense given that you're attempting to share aspects of your life with a stranger. For that reason I believe it's imperative to find a therapist that you are able to connect with. Therapy jitters often dissipate once someone has had the opportunity to work with a person who "gets them" and is easy to talk to. I encourage people to schedule phone consultations with potential therapists. Consultations provide a great opportunity for clients to share a little about themselves and ask the therapist questions, while also gauging how comfortable they feel in conversation with the therapist. Pursuing therapy may feel daunting, but a good client-therapist fit can lessen that difficulty.
