My Approach to Helping
Haley Selarnick, MS, MFT holds a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University.
Haley’s approach to psychotherapy is both compassionate and attentive. She strives to collaborate with clients to find solutions that work for them. Being a systemically trained therapist, Haley looks at the impact society, family, friends, partners, and cultures have on our journey. She understands that, at times, we all struggle to move out of ineffective and harmful communication patterns and within that struggle we find distress and anxiety.
To that aim, Haley employs a combination of insight-oriented and evidence based approaches, including Emotion-focused couples therapy (EFT), Narrative therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients achieve their goals.
As a therapist, she understands that we all tell stories about our lives (who we are, who or what we connect with, what limits us). Haley works with clients to understand their stories and what parts get hidden, left out, or over-addressed. She believes that the fabric of our lives are the stories we tell and aims to help clients tell their stories in ways that benefit them.
Her work with clients includes, but is not limited to, addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, low-self esteem, and chronic illness. Haley is also a certified Prepare and Enrich Relationship Check Up Clinician, which is an evidence-based assessment for couples interested in exploring engagement, marriage, or co-habitation. This assessment will show couples where they excel as well as what areas they can grow in and how.
