I strongly believe that people have the capacity to change aspects of their lives that are not working for them. Change may include addressing problematic feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and/or patterns that leave you feeling stuck or dissatisfied. Or change may involve learning to cope with the unpredictable and often overwhelming challenges life presents. Making the choice to change or improve your life does not necessarily translate into knowing how to accomplish these goals. Therapy can play a pivotal role in providing the nonjudgmental support, the opportunity for self-understanding, and the guidance in developing the effective strategies that are often needed to make change a reality.

For the past several years, I have successfully worked with teens and adult clients to better their lives. I recognize and respect that therapy is a choice and that each individual may be seeking or needing different approaches to address their concerns. I have a strong foundation in insight-oriented, psychodymanic therapy and view the therapeutic relationship as a key component in developing understanding about oneself and how you relate to those within your life. However, I have also attained extensive training and experience in shorter-term treatments, utilizing cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral techniques (DBT), and mindfulness techniques that have been proven efficacious in addressing a number of presenting concerns (i.e. anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress management, self-esteem issues, etc). I have found this integration of approaches to be particularly effective in providing successful outcomes for my clients.

Making the choice to engage in therapy is a brave and meaningful step towards the possibility for change. It is important to find the best therapist fit for you and your needs. I will work with you to determine if I am the right therapist for you, and if so, how we can actively and collaboratively work together to address your needs.

My Role as a Therapist

I love what I do and am committed to providing the best treatment possible for the clients with whom I work. My initial goal is to create a warm, safe, an open therapeutic environment that allows clients to feel the freedom to be honest about who they are and what they are experiencing.
I take a collaborative and active approach to therapy. I initially work with my clients to establish a safe, honest, and collaborative relationship, which is the foundation of our work together. We will spend the first few sessions focusing upon understanding your particular concerns, both in the present and in the context of your life experiences, and will then work together to establish a mutually agreed upon plan to address your individualized wants and needs. The initial goal(s) often focus on the reduction of more troubling symptoms if they are present. The therapeutic process typically entails the incorporation of tools and skills for you to be better able to actively integrate the changes that you're working towards within your day to day life. As you learn and integrate these new skills, we also give attention to better understand the underlying factors and dynamics that contributed to your concerns. The overall goal is to facilitate meaningful change that you can implement within your life and that will impact your life for the better.
