What's My Approach to Therapy?
Hello! My name is Anita Szalontai. I'm a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience working with various populations, in various settings, such as a community mental health clinic, hospital, college wellness center, and residential substance use treatment. I earned my BSW in Hungary at the University of Debrecen, and my MSW in the US at Touro College Graduate School of Social Work. I completed motivational interviewing training at Columbia University, as well as earned a credentialed alcohol and substance use counselor certificate based on my experience with the population.
I'm utilizing my academic knowledge and professional/personal experiences in specific cases, such as panic challenges, domestic/intimate partner violence, substance use issues, and immigration challenges. I also possess information about additional resources that can be helpful in some instances.
I would use a mixture of therapy styles tailored to your needs—such as psychodynamic, person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, to name a few.
My goal is to determine your strengths, reintroduce them to you, and show you how to utilize them. In other words, my therapy sessions are strength- and evidence-based, as well as providing empowerment to get you through difficult times.
