My Approach to Helping
I have been in practice in Lubbock since 1985. I was with Crossroads Samaritan Counseling Center for 13 years and has been in private practice since 1998. I work with adults helping deal with depression and anxiety as well as personality disorders, and also with couples to help improve their relationships. In particular, I have become very familiar with Mindfulness Meditation and incorporate that practice into my work with clients. He has also trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Mindfulness training can involve an 8 week course that teaches all the varieties of mindful meditation that help individuals deal with depression, anxiety and chronic pain. I have taught these classes for the last 10 years, but also can teach Mindfulness in the individual therapy hour. Each class is 2 hours in length and include meditation and teaching. Participants are given homework to do daily that enhances their understanding and practice of meditation.
Understanding the pain that is experienced, both physically and emotionally, as a result of trauma, I am now offering a new treatment option of BrainSpotting. It is a very effective way to access the area of the brain where the trauma experience is stored. Not much has to be talked about, just processed.
