My Approach to Helping
I work by phone only. Doing counseling by phone gives you more time (10-15 minutes more than seeing me in-office), you don't have to fight traffic, and you can rest comfortably at home during your work with me.
Therapy is about finally feeling safe enough to be your real self with someone.
Seeking a counselor can be a difficult step. The thought of talking to a stranger about personal things can feel really unnatural. I've been doing my own personal weekly counseling for more than 30 years. I know how vulnerable it can be. Why do I see a therapist? Because it feels good. The feelings of trust and warmth I share with her, the feelings of release and freedom that come benefit my life so much.
My main focus is to create a caring, trusting relationship, where you feel truly comfortable with me so you can explore your stuff. I want to know you.
The first task of counseling is to build a trustful friendship with one another. This is the safe healing space within which all the work can be done. Without it - clients just can't get down to the bottom of things. Once the hard work of getting to the real core of things is done, then the satisfying process of transformation comes into play. Who does best with this type of therapy? Therapeutic results are ultimately based on the level of self-honesty you are ready to put into your healing journey. If you come with courage, the end result can be deep understanding, forgiveness, self-love, freedom from illusion, and a calm, peaceful knowing that one has reached a far greater personal truth.
If you would like to work with me, it's important to be clear that the main goal of therapy is to bust through the old emotional and mental paradigms that are no longer serving you - whatever it takes. This work isn't always comfortable. It's brave, yet loving work.
