My Approach to Helping
Seeking therapy is a difficult decision and finding the right therapist is just as challenging. In my practice, I teach clients skills that they can continue to use even after therapy has ended. I help clients modify behaviors and thinking patterns that are keeping them stuck, and develop solutions for change. I work with individuals and couples using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT has been recognized as one of the most effective means of treating a wide variety of psychological issues, including anxiety, depression and stress. I also have specialty training in the treatment of trauma and in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
In CBT, I work with clients to modify thought patterns and destructive or avoidant behaviors that maintain negative feelings. Therapy focuses on learning new skills to change emotions like anger, worry, or sadness. These skills may include communication or assertiveness training, stress management, sleep strategies, relaxation techniques, and modifying thinking styles.
In DBT, clients are taught coping skills such as mindfulness mediation or emotion regulation techniques to manage mood swings, relationship and interpersonal problems, impulse urges, and difficulty with concentration and focus.
