Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have experience working with teens and adolescents, self-harming behaviors, depression and anxiety. In addition, I have extensive training in couples work and offer sex positive therapy.

My Role as a Therapist

I decided to call my practice 'Adaptive Counseling' because I see adaptation as the foundation for how I view people and what my role is as a therapist. I believe that all humans are innately capable of creating change for themselves. Everyone is born with a unique set of skills that are available throughout our lifetime to use in times of turmoil and distress. As your therapist, my role is to help you harness these adaptive skills and utilize them to battle problems and remind yourself that you are resilient and capable of overcoming any obstacle. I will spend time with you understanding how you have formed these skills and how you may already be using some of them in your day to day life. I understand that it is up to you to make things different for yourself and it is up to me to help you get to a point where you believe it.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

I am trained as a marriage and family therapist. This does not mean I only see couples and families but rather that I work with clients from a relationship-based lens. Even if you are coming to therapy as an individual, my guess is you do not function in complete isolation, we will explore the role of "others" in your life and how those interactions are shaping your experiences.
