My Approach to Helping

Finding the right therapist is often the most difficult part of therapy. For those who have never been in therapy, that first phone call can be a daunting step. For those who have already been in therapy, it can be difficult to find a new therapist. Finding a therapist with whom you feel you are in-sync is an important aspect of successful treatment. You may believe that a therapist can be helpful but without feeling that you are a good fit -- that your therapist is warm, empathic, engaging and engaged -- the treatment is likely to fall flat. My objective is to provide a safe environment where you feel free to be yourself, that you are not being judged and that you can and want to honestly address the issues that are most pressing -- the ones that are creating some level of discomfort, stress, pain, suffering or stagnation in you life -- the reasons you would be seeking therapy at this time. The psychotherapeutic process is most successful when you feel safe and understood.

There may be barriers in your life that are preventing you from achieving fulfillment. I will help you to identify those barriers, tackle them and work collaboratively so that you can put yourself on a meaningful path to attaining the best life possible. Psychotherapy is not "one size fits all." I tailor the treatment to fit with your unique needs and interests. I believe in the strength of the connection between us to facilitate necessary changes.

I work with individuals, couples and groups who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues including intimacy and communication, work-related matters including professional/career choices and changes, social anxiety, social isolation, parenting issues, caregiver matters, family dynamics, substance use and abuse for those who are in remission, eating disorders, marital and divorce conflicts. I work with those who are interested in exploring the meaning, purpose and direction in their lives. It is not uncommon for people to feel stuck at various points in the life cycle and it is challenging to go it alone. My aim is to help you uncover your authentic self, your fullest potential, to develop a healthy sense of yourself where you feel confident and assertive to be yourself in the face of challenges that emerge. I aim to help you to create resiliency to make dealing with life's unexpected challenges smoother to navigate.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

The goal of a healthy life, according to Freud, is love and work. To me, there is nothing more important than living a fulfilled life. That can mean different things to different people. My objective is to work collaboratively to identify barriers to living meaningfully, uncover your strengths that will help you to achieve your goals and be on the path toward accomplishing what is most important. Satisfaction can be derived from being on the path regardless of how long it takes to "arrive." I find my work purposeful in helping to experience the necessary losses, gains and changes to facilitate positive growth for individuals, couples and groups.
