My Approach to Helping
My goal is to help you achieve a sense of control over your life, your choices, and your relationships. Oftentimes people come to therapy when they feel dissatisfied with some or all areas of their lives and they can't seem to figure out why or what to do about it. Through empathic listening, warmth, humor, and genuine engagement, I help people gain insight into their unique ways of thinking and operating and then work to build up strong, self-affirming thoughts and compassionate feelings to combat negative patterns. Therapy is hard work, but so worth the investment!
I am invested in my clients because a safe and trusting relationship is the key to overcoming many common issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic disorders, and relational conflicts. I emphasize the therapeutic relationship as a tool for transformation of problematic habits into adaptive and fulfilling ones.
I specialize in working with individuals going through difficult life transitions such as fertility issues, pregnancy, perinatal mood/anxiety, parenting, divorce, military deployment, career changes, and loss. My expertise is with individuals, couples, and adolescents using a psychodynamic and cognitive approach.
