My Approach to Helping
I have 25 years experience diagnosing and treating mental health issues in individuals, couples and families. I offer the full range of treatment for mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, and I also help patients address issues that are interfering with their enjoyment of life, their success in relationships, or their careers. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I am licensed to prescribe medication as well as provide psychotherapy in accordance with each patient's needs.
I help individuals and couples learn strategies to manage challenges that stem from stressful situations. Divorce, work transitions, grief, conflict and body-image issues are just some of the things I can help you address.
My approach includes dynamic therapy, which offers patients a protected environment where they can address the effects of their emotions. I also offer cognitive behavioral therapy to help change negative thinking patterns.
My training includes a Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing, divorce team training from the New York Collaborative Law Group, and transference-focused psychotherapy training at the Personality Disorders Institute of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where I studied with the renowned psychiatrist Otto Kernberg, MD. Prior to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I trained as a nurse, and my knowledge of physical illnesses gives me insight into mental health issues that arise from physical illnesses.
