Mental health is a serious issue for Dallas and the surrounding county area. In a study of 16 counties in North Texas, Dallas County had the highest number of mental health visits (217,000) in 2016. It also reported the highest number of hospital visits related to substance misuse (157,000). 

The study shows Dallas County has more than 120 mental health care providers per 100,000 people. This is significantly higher than the national average (90 per 100,000).
