The Mecklenburg Health Department has developed programs aimed at young adult and adolescent males. Geared toward men between the ages of 13 and 28, the Male Involvement Program is an educational program delivered in 14 sessions that teaches young men how to improve their relationships, lives, communication, and goal-setting skills. The Males Place is designed to help younger men, between 10 and 24. It empowers young men by providing mentoring and support from middle school through high school and beyond. Issues that are addressed include anger management, teen pregnancy, fathering skills, male physical and mental health, and others. Special focus is given to teens through participation in opportunities like the Role Model All-Star Classic Contest, designed to inspire and motivate young men to achieve independence and become successful citizens. These programs offered through the county are just a few of the culturally diverse and comprehensive services that Mecklenburg area residents can take advantage of at no cost6.
