My Approach to Helping
My first goal, when meeting new clients, is to make them feel safe, less shameful, and build trust. I approach clients from a genuine, empathetic stance, which I've refined by working in the mental health field for the last 9 years. I convey that we are partners in the healing process, using psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral theories. I listen, engage, and give insight. I am not a silent analyst. I believe a positive therapeutic experience stems from finding a good match. I encourage clients to have a free phone consultation with me before we decide to work together.
More Info About My Practice
I treat adults with depression and anxiety, teenagers and young adults struggling with family relationships and past trauma, and couples. I have post-graduate training in maternal mental health from NYU's Post-Grad Medical School, Columbia Medical School's Continuing Education program, and The Postpartum Stress Center of PA. I am a pediatric sleep consultant and I run various support groups. I have a Master's of Fine Art's from Columbia University, in addition to my MSW from New York University. I was a professor at NYU from 2004-2006, have appeared on national televsion programs, and I've published several articles on parenting and psychology.
