My Approach to Helping
The significant challenges of modern life cause many people to lose touch with their own needs or longings in the strain of trying to adapt to the demands placed on them. Others develop self defeating patterns characterized by shame, self-blame, or substance abuse. Still others adapt successfully but are consistently blocked in their attempts to achieve lasting intimacy.
As a therapist, I will work with you to achieve better understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing, and to discover more satisfying and adaptive responses. My approach is non-judgmental and compassionate, informed by my sensing of what would be most helpful to you at that particular point. I have a profound respect for the potential of the therapeutic relationship to facilitate personal growth.
In addition to my medical training, I am a graduate of the four year training program in psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. I have also received training in EMDR. I use medication as an adjunct to psychotherapy when it is indicated.
