My Approach to Helping

Addressing anxiety, trauma, or your relationship with substances is a decision that’s both rewarding and challenging. Wherever you are on your road to recovery, I’m interested in hearing your story, creating a space where you feel understood, and working together to build a life you love, step by step.

My philosophy is “benevolent curiosity.” Expect me to ask lots of questions and work with you to reconstruct your story into one of empowerment. I use relaxation techniques to effectively channel anxiety, create a space to confront difficult emotions, and offer reading suggestions to build on our work together.

I know this path is hard, but there is hope for change. Starting therapy is the path to acceptance, wellness, and a more fulfilling life.

More Info About My Practice

At some point in our lives, all of us experience strained relationships, financial difficulty, or traumatic events. When these things come up, processing your feelings with a non-judgmental person can make all the difference in how you move forward. Being heard is an essential part of the therapeutic process.

Many of my clients ask me if their experiences are “normal.” Personally, I don’t like the word “normal.” I don’t think it actually exists, and I’m transparent about that with my clients.

I consider myself a family-oriented person. I love spending time with my children and grandchildren outside of work. I also enjoy bowling, skating, reading, listening to music, and meditating to keep myself balanced.

Groups I Work With

My clients are working on their relationship with alcohol, drugs, or any “vices” that help deal with life’s challenges. Addictive cycles are a condition, not a character flaw, that have a lot of stigma attached. It can be hard to address any associated personal or relational difficulties when you’re hesitant to even talk about it. By opening up, learning new coping skills, and building their support network, I move clients past difficult emotions to a place of health and wholeness.

My experience in addiction also lends itself well to clients managing anxiety and recovering from trauma. This arm of my practice focuses on learning to cope with stress and feel at home in your body after having difficult experiences.
