My Approach to Helping
Have you often found yourself repeating old relational patterns with people and wondering why this keeps on happening? Are you sometimes sad or anxious with seemingly no cause? Do you want a deeper connection with others and with yourself but feel confused about how and where to start? Maybe you've thought of getting into therapy a bunch of times but hesitated because you were worried the person wouldn't "get" you. Well, I might be the therapist for you. Let me help you take the plunge into uncovering your inner world and its belief system so you can gain a deeper insight into how and why you might find yourself in certain situations or with certain people.
But first, a little about myself. My route to becoming a therapist was certainly not always a direct (or unrocky) one. I'm the rebellious child of immigrants who has done things my (not always perfect) way so I have a deep understanding of the struggle for authenticity in the face of family or cultural disapproval. Before becoming a therapist, I was a bartender in the East Village in the big bad 80's and 90's. Throughout my academic life, I have always been interested in art and music so I hold an equal amount of respect for intellectual culture and the beauty and wisdom of the streets. This eclectic and nontraditional background has, I believe, contributed to my open and warm stance towards all aspects of experience.
SO, I encourage you to reach out if any of what I've written has resonated for you. I promise you, at the very least, it will prove an interesting and thought provoking experience.
