My Approach to Helping
I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist in New York City. I have trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family and Marital Therapy, as well as Psychiatric Medication Management. I have always believed that brain health is the key to every form of well being and every individual regardless of their diagnosis or symptoms has the potential to be healthier. Whether your reasons for seeking treatment include dysthymia, dysphoria, mood swings, anxiety, marital discord, sexual dysfunction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, treatment-resistant hallucinations, persistent irritability, dysphoria, insomnia, wanting to perform better at work, everyone has the potential to feel better.
Pursuing training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute, I became more conscious of defenses and psychodynamic conflict which can exacerbate symptoms, impair work performance, and human relationships. I believe that effective treatment involves the integration of psychotherapy and medication management both in office and via telepsychiatry. I firmly believe that psychodynamic conflict can both cause and exacerbate psychiatric symptoms, and have a passion for psychodynamic psychotherapy as well as medication management. I also practice cognitive behavioral and relationship therapy.
I work to achieve maximum symptom reduction with lowest effective medication doses thus minimizing side effects and tailoring treatment to individual needs. This involves evaluating for medical, nutritional, hormonal, psychodynamic or emotional and environmental causes of symptoms. I have done a lot of work with individuals during pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopausal stages of life. I take the time to ensure that medication is always prescribed with care.
