My Approach to Helping
I get no greater gratification than helping people who have put their faith and trust in me in choosing me as their therapist from among the myriad other practitioners and approaches in New York City. Dedicating my professional life to helping others is undoubtedly one of the best life choices I made. In over 25 years of clinical practice, I have worked with a wide variety of individuals from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and tailor my approach to the specific needs of the individual/couple. My understanding of human behavior is guided by the psychoanalytic orientation of Columbia University where I received my doctoral degree, and I have integrated cognitive-behavioral techniques to complement this understanding to provide symptom relief. I treat a wide spectrum of clinical disorders associated with anxiety/depression, and when medication is at issue, I refer to a highly qualified psychiatrist with whom I work closely. My approach is interactive, and I provide guidance when appropriate. I am highly compassionate and empathetic, and strive to make the therapy experience not only transformative, but enjoyable. If you are having stress-related difficulties, relationship issues, have low self-esteem, or simply having problems navigating everyday life, I will do my utmost to provide an experience to enhance the quality of your life, as a successful therapeutic experience is priceless.
More Info About My Practice
I am not a member of any insurance panel, and therefore you would need to have out-of-network benefits to use your insurance. However, I make it a practice to take care of billing and collection from the insurance companies to alleviate at least that burden for you; just as with in-network benefits, you would only pay a co-insurance at the time of the session. My fee is competitive and reflects my years of training and experience, as well as my Upper West Side Manhattan location.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
Psychotherapy is a unique experience. The relationship between therapist and client is different than any other. Three key elements of this relationship contribute to its effectiveness:
1) Confidentiality - You can be certain that personal information you share will not leave the room
2) Unidirectional focus -- Therapy is all about you and your needs. Your friends/family may be well-meaning in advice they give, but it's most often about what they would do in your shoes, not what might be best for you.
3) Unconditional positive regard -- You will never be judged, and you will always be treated with the utmost care and compassion.
I strive to provide a supportive environment where you can feel comfortable sharing and unburdening yourself with issues you may be reluctant to share with others. I will help you learn to confront your fears, communicate more effectively, and in general, and this is most important, feel better about yourself.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Research has consistently shown that one of the most important factors in the success of any psychotherapeutic approach is the "fit" between client and therapist. Feeling safe enough to expose your concerns and vulnerabilities is paramount to success, and to this end I try to provide the most comfortable environment possible. You can be assured that if you connect with my style and approach to therapy, then you will likely have a positive experience.
