My Approach to Helping

My name is Fern Reinbeck. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I work with clients who have a variety of concerns, including relationship, codependency and attachment concerns, anxiety, OCD, phobias, trouble within family dynamics, substance abuse, and those who need help with transitions in life. Please understand that I can only help you to help yourself on this exploration of self care; therefore, if you are ready, we will begin by building a compassionate, caring, and trusting therapeutic relationship.

Over the past 11 years, I have also worked with those who struggle with depression, identity concerns, relationships and partnerships, substance use, and the family unit. I do a lot of work surrounding codependency and attachment, along with how those issues affect our relationships- even as adults.

My hope is that you will always know that you are not alone. If you are willing, we will do the work for you to grow into the healthiest human you can be.

"Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you, doesn't mean you can, should, or need to do it alone." -Lisa Olivera

More Info About My Practice

I have availability via telehealth Monday through Thursday and work two evenings a week to help accommodate your busy schedule. I am also available for a free 15 minute consultation to ensure we are a good therapeutic match for each other.

My philosophy is simple: you can grow to your fullest potential if you are willing to get uncomfortable. Therapy is not easy; however, in my experience, those who are willing to take the risk will learn to love, honor, and accept themselves for the beautiful soul that they are.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Attachment concerns: In childhood, when a child does not receive what they need in early development such as emotional, physical, or verbal interactions from their primary caregivers in order to feel safe and secure, this can impact your current relationships as an adult. We can practice inner child work together. This is one of many techniques in which you learn to become a loving parent to yourself, and care for that child that did not have their needs met.

Codependency: In general, if you identify with some of the following you might be having difficulty in forming healthy relationships, " low self-esteem, people pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, caretaking, enabling, and dependency." Are you experiencing any of these behaviors- trying to control others or allowing others to control you, needy or clingy, giving into others rather than putting yourself first, the inability to say no? If so, perhaps you are struggling to love yourself. We would work together in learning to see what a healthy relationship looks like for you, and to set limits in order to keep yourself safe, without feeling shame or guilt.

Anxiety, OCD, & Phobias: if you find yourself worrying about many different things (things that have happened and or not happened yet), are having difficulty sleeping, or perhaps are prone to performing rituals or compulsions that may help you feel better in the moment, we can learn with small steps to accept the anxiety, retrain the brain with small exposure response preventions, and shift the behaviors that have kept you safe, one at a time; as you determine the pace.

I also have experience working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with communication and conflict, depression, substance use and abuse, grief, life transitions, peer relationships, stress, and those who need assistance learning effective coping skills.
