My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
I work with people who are thoughtful and self-aware, but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. You might find yourself caught between who you are and who you feel you’re “supposed” to be—driven more by pressure or anxiety than by a clear sense of what actually feels right. In our work together, the focus is on helping you understand yourself more deeply while also creating meaningful change. Sessions are active and collaborative, often incorporating humor and metaphor, with a balance of insight and practical movement forward. I draw from relational cultural theory, narrative therapy, and solution-focused approaches, adapting to what feels most helpful for you. My work is trauma-informed and identity-affirming, and I approach your story with curiosity, care, and respect. As a cis, queer man from the evangelical South, I bring lived insight into how power, privilege, and systems shape identity and mental health. I’m mindful of how these dynamics can show up both in your life and in the therapy room. Over time, clients often feel more grounded in who they are, more confident in their choices, and better able to move through uncertainty without losing themselves. If you’re considering therapy, I offer a free consultation to talk through what you’re looking for and see if we’re a good fit.
Do you feel stressed, unhappy, or depressed at home? Are you stuck in yet another relationship that seems doomed to fail? Is your relationship lacking intimacy and romance, or do you feel that the spark is gone? I'm a compassionate and experienced counselor who helps families, couples, and individuals overcome obstacles in various areas of their lives. I offer support, answers to questions, and general assistance to my clients outside the office, and can also make home and office visits. I particularly enjoy working with clients who aren't achieving their goals but who are motivated to change that. Please email me or call me.
Where ever you are in your process with therapy, I am happy to meet you where you are at. If you are feeling down with low energy and motivation, or racing thoughts with difficulty sleeping or communicating, or even trying to work through a past that you can't seem to shake, we can work together to build skills, reframe your perspective, and heal unhelpful beliefs and patterns. I use an authentic approach and will challenge you to take steps to create the changes you are hoping for.

Clients often describe my approach as gentle, understanding, and non-judgmental. Many clients report life-changing results after only a few EMDR sessions of processing traumatic memories. Has talk-therapy proven unsuccessful for you in the past? My training is in experiential therapy models, including EMDR, bodywork, and psychodrama, which allow us to do go places beyond talking. I specialize working with trauma, attachment issues, grief & loss, and addiction. Trauma, addiction, and loss can disrupt one's life - and often require professional help. Together, we can process the fueling factors of addiction, emotional pain, or relationship issues. I feel very blessed to bear witness to change and transformation in others (and myself!) everyday through my work. While many therapists claim to be 'trauma-informed', my practice is revolves entirely around trauma work. I've been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress - the highest status in the academy. As the Director of the Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy, I am committed to providing quality trauma therapy services in my community. Together we work to understand what the behavior is doing for you, address underlying emotional and psychological factors, and build healthier ways of coping, connecting, and living successful lives. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 2 years of experience supporting individuals managing anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), trauma, grief, and autism spectrum challenges in individual and group settings, as well as 8 years in the behavioral health field. I also have experience working with families seeking psychoeducation and support while navigating a family member's autism spectrum diagnosis.
After struggling with anxiety or depression for long enough, you may start to feel stuck. Anxiety and depression can make us think and act in ways that ironically leave us feeling even more anxious and depressed, creating a kind of "vicious cycle." Fortunately, advances in evidence-based therapies have given rise to interventions that can reliably interrupt this cycle, so you can stop struggling and start living. I work with my clients using cognitive-behavioral and humanistic approaches, and incorporate mindfulness-based interventions to decrease the impact of challenging thoughts and emotions, while simultaneously increasing engagement with who and what matters most. Your values and goals will guide our work together every step of the way.
