My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
I work with people who are thoughtful and self-aware, but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. You might find yourself caught between who you are and who you feel you’re “supposed” to be—driven more by pressure or anxiety than by a clear sense of what actually feels right. In our work together, the focus is on helping you understand yourself more deeply while also creating meaningful change. Sessions are active and collaborative, often incorporating humor and metaphor, with a balance of insight and practical movement forward. I draw from relational cultural theory, narrative therapy, and solution-focused approaches, adapting to what feels most helpful for you. My work is trauma-informed and identity-affirming, and I approach your story with curiosity, care, and respect. As a cis, queer man from the evangelical South, I bring lived insight into how power, privilege, and systems shape identity and mental health. I’m mindful of how these dynamics can show up both in your life and in the therapy room. Over time, clients often feel more grounded in who they are, more confident in their choices, and better able to move through uncertainty without losing themselves. If you’re considering therapy, I offer a free consultation to talk through what you’re looking for and see if we’re a good fit.
I provide a client-centric approach that leans into compassion so you can feel safe and secure. Through this space, we can get curious and explore areas where you feel stuck or wounded. From here, we can help you shift toward greater health and wellness. At its core, my work focuses on your relationships, including how they impact you and how you impact them. This helps us both widen our understanding and pinpoint areas of concern.
I truly believe in connecting with my clients based on where they are in life and understanding the unique stories that shape each person. By working closely together, I help my clients find practical solutions while honoring their personal stories. I see every challenge as a chance for personal growth. with the awareness that people are doing the best they can and aiming to keep getting better.
My approach to helping is grounded in creating a warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed space where clients feel safe, supported, and understood. I integrate eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies, mindfulness, and person-centered care to help clients heal from trauma, reduce anxiety, and shift the patterns and beliefs that keep them feeling stuck. My work focuses on helping individuals experience meaningful, lasting change through evidence-based treatment. At Morning Joy Counseling and Consulting, we are a group practice that provides high-quality mental health care for trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and faith-related concerns. Our team includes clinicians with diverse specialties, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, anxiety treatment, child and adolescent therapy, couples counseling, Christian counseling, and a holistic approach, allowing you to be matched with the therapist whose expertise best fits your needs. We believe in whole-person healing that honors each client’s emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Whether you’re seeking virtual therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing intensives, ongoing counseling, or support through a major life change, our practice is committed to offering compassionate, personalized care designed to help you gain clarity, rebuild confidence, and move toward a healthier, more grounded life.
I believe that successful therapy begins with a genuine human connection. My approach is collaborative and person-centered. I want to understand who you are, what you're experiencing, and what you hope to change. Just as importantly, I want to help you recognize the strengths and abilities you may not realize you already possess. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship and marital difficulties, low self-esteem, and the challenges that life inevitably brings. Together, we'll explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck, while developing practical ways to create meaningful and lasting change. My approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, and person-centered counseling. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person brings a different history, personality, and set of circumstances to therapy, and our work should reflect that. I also believe that seeking therapy doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming. Sometimes relationships become complicated. And sometimes we simply recognize that we'd like to feel better, understand ourselves more fully, or approach life differently. Therapy offers an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life, gain perspective, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity. And one more thing: therapy doesn't always have to be serious. While there is certainly room for difficult conversations and painful emotions, I believe laughter, humor, and genuine connection are equally important parts of the therapeutic process. My goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where you can be yourself, speak openly, and feel understood. Above all, I want therapy to be a place where you feel supported, challenged when appropriate, and encouraged to make the changes that matter most to you.
You may be thoughtful, capable, and deeply caring, yet in your closest relationships, something still feels off. You might notice yourself reacting more strongly than you want to, repeating the same patterns, or leaving conversations feeling misunderstood or disconnected. If you’re here, you’ve likely already spent time trying to understand it. And at some point, it begins to feel like insight alone isn’t enough. I help you slow things down and begin to make sense of what’s happening beneath those moments. Together, we look at the patterns shaping how you relate, how you respond under stress, how you protect yourself, and how those patterns show up in your relationships today. This work is not about fixing you. It’s about helping you understand your experience in a way that creates space for you to respond with more clarity, steadiness, and intention. As we work together, you’ll begin to notice: less reactivity more awareness in the moment a stronger sense of yourself and a more grounded way of connecting I provide a space that is thoughtful, steady, and nonjudgmental, where you don’t have to perform to be understood. From there, real change becomes possible.
People don't have to be in crisis to come to therapy; oftentimes, those who contact me are managing feelings that have been building up over time. I have niche experience working with medical professionals such as physicians, nurses and medical trainees and directed a new program at UNMC aimed at understanding burnout. I enjoy working with college and graduate students, international students, and did this at counseling centers like MIT. I especially like working with adults in general, and new parents. I completed my APA internship and postdoc in the Penn System where I saw a variety of people living with a range of feelings. I believe that addressing feelings and understanding where they stem from, and how to manage them, can help people navigate life's challenges in relationships, work, school, and beyond. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, emotionally rich and confidential environment for individuals to explore what's on their mind. Collaborating on other areas of your life that you may want to examine, such as your relationships with others (romantic, friendship, personal, professional) is something I find joy in. I look forward to meeting you and potentially working together to uncover not just what might be holding you back or keeping you up at night, but your strengths as well.
My approach is integrative, intersectional, developmental, and contextual with a basic belief in the value of connection and the power of possibility. My work pulls from principles of Intersectionality and Liberation Practices, Attachment and Relational Science, Differentiation as a Developmental process in relationships, Contextual and Systems Theories, and the essential journey of Trauma Integration across the lifespan. I understand that we are heavily shaped by our relationships, family experiences, and positionality in the social world with regard to race, culture, gender identity, sexuality, etc. My practice is relationship and sexual intimacy focused, and I've deepened my lens to include Level 1 & 2 training in the Gottman Method; Advanced training in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, in addition to past experience with PACT & Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I only work with couples or relationship structures at this time and I offer in person; telehealth; and a hybrid option. I also offer mini intensives (4 hour sessions), which compress the therapeutic work into a shorter period, offering a powerful and potentially transformative approach for clients seeking to revitalize their relationships, providing a focused and immersive environment for rapid change and deeper understanding. Because I see relationship clients from all across PA and DE, the mini intensive option works well for clients who really want an in person therapy experience, but can't make a weekly or even biweekly commute fit into their schedule.

Every conversation makes a difference. The differences may be subtle or they can be life-changing. I work in a direct and warm manner, creating an environment that is dynamic and safe. The therapeutic relationship is a very important one and can provide the basis for navigating through difficult life transitions, improving communication skills, healing from a loss, or exploring possibilities for enhancing one's life.
Anxiety and stress affect everyone. Whatever the cause- relationships, school, work, social, medical issues, existential or spiritual crisis, loss of any kind- it can be overwhelming. Important obligations and events might be avoided. Communication and connection can be compromised. Self-esteem, sleeping patterns, energy level, and mood all may suffer. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and stress reduction, but also help people with: panic attacks, anger, ADHD, depression, phobias, OCD, addiction, trauma, relationship difficulties, spiritual and existential crises, chronic medical conditions (gastric, migraines, tinnitus, POTS, etc.), and many other problems. Very often, symptoms and issues overlap and are correlated.
