My approach is to help you find and address the root causes of your suffering, rather than to label and treat the symptoms alone. By working through difficult memories and life events in a safe environment, you will be better able to understand and face your feelings and worries. I will help you think critically about your life events, and choices; uncovering long-standing patterns of behavior and thinking that may be holding you back. Together we will work to gently confront your feelings of guilt, shame, inadequacy, sadness, andor anger. This will help you to find new perspective and healthier coping mechanisms. Whether you suffer from old emotional wounds, or you have suffered a more recent loss or trauma, I can help you find your way back to a happier and more fulfilling life.
I specialize in working with people suffering from the effects of adult andor childhood trauma, child abuse (physical, sexual, or emotional), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, sexual assault, addictions, depression, social anxiety, and other anxiety disorders. I am a trauma-informed therapist, which means that I am trained to discover and understand the ways that trauma affects the lives of individuals. I believe that most mental health issues, including addictions, eating disorders, anxiety and depression, are typically symptoms of underlying issues of attachment, trauma, andor family of origin issues. I understand the vulnerabilities or triggers of trauma survivors and utilize treatment approaches that reach to the root of the issue with out causing re-traumatization.
I also specialize in working with all sexually related issues, including sexual addiction, sexual trauma, gender identity issues, and sexualintimacy issues, as well as Polyamory, BDSMKink, and alternative family structures.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I believe the purpose of therapy is not to remove or deny suffering, but to understand it and move through it in ways that lead to deeper self-understanding, increased consciousness, and personal power. I work with individuals to help them discover a deeper and more authentic connection with themselves and others, and through this, the path to greater love, freedom, health, and well-being will unfold.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
I believe that the therapeutic process is about a life-long engagement with the Self that does not need to be confined to specific timeframes. I encourage clients to move in and out of therapy as they feel inclined. Depending on the severity of the issues being addressed, clients may choose to seek therapy anywhere for two times a week, once a week, bi-weekly, once per month, or on an as needed basis. We will work together to create a therapy schedule that works best for you.
