I am a psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist in San Francisco, and I have been working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and lifestyles since 1993
My style of working is warm, thoughtful, and interactive. I believe in providing a place that is private, where there is no judgment, so that an individual or a couple can get help with their personal difficulties in a safe environment in order to bring about change, healing, and growth.
I offer three kinds of work. traditional psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and couples counseling. It?s a bit of a challenge to describe my work partly because I work somewhat differently with different people. Sometimes, a short-term, practical, problem-solving focus with specific strategies or relationship advice is what what?s called for. Other times, especially when there are multiple issues involving difficult relationship patterns and painful emotional states, a longer process is needed. Either way, I am very open about my thought process and the approaches I use. I consider our work to be a collaboration.

Also, on the lower right of this page is a list of issues I work with, but in addition to those issues, I also see people who just need to discuss a situation or who are simply feeling overwhelmed, without support, or somehow empty in their lives.

A few words about hypnotherapy are probably in order since there is a lot of misunderstanding about it in the popular culture.
In my practice, hypnotherapy is a lot like psychotherapy except it uses hypnosis as an important part of the process. Hypnotherapy is guided inner work done in a relaxed and focused state usually with eyes closed. This state is called "trance," and it is a natural state of mind we all enter regularly. An example of a naturally occurring trance state is daydreaming while staring out the window. It can be a wonderfully helpful method for deep healing and healthy empowerment.
Working in trance is a gentle way of engaging more directly with deeper levels of yourself. It is also deeply respectful and entirely collaborative process. The person can shift out of trance whenever they want. I think of therapeutic hypnosis as a way of developing an active, constructive and creative partnership with a larger intelligence within us.
