My Approach to Helping

I love working with adults and couples.

My job as your therapist is to help you find the right resources, both in your community and within yourself, to help you experience the challenges of life in a way that ultimately empowers you and builds your innate resilience.

As therapists go, I'm active and conversational. I'm not one to simply listen and nod. My style is direct and warm, and I love collaborating to help you get the results you're seeking. I'm curious, engaged, and enjoy exploring new ways of thinking and processing what's happening in your life. I'm open to feedback and delight in customizing your care.

My approach is built on a foundation of feminist, anti-oppression values. I believe therapy is ineffective if the greater social context a person lives in is not examined critically; most of the time, doing so is empowering for all genders.

No two therapists are the same, and no two clients are the same. I'm not going to give you the same exact care I'd give someone else, so my style differs from person to person based on what they need most. Generally, I'm active and engaged and draw from a wide variety of modalities. If you feel like you'd work well with a therapist who is conversational, direct, and warm, I would love to hear from you.

More Info About My Practice

I'm trained in many different types of therapy, including humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, narrative, and solution-focused. I incorporate mindfulness practices, feminist theory, somatic experiencing, Non-Violent Communication, and Gestalt, imaginal, and Hakomi techniques into my work as fits the client and topic.

When working with couples, I incorporate EFT, Imago, and Non-Violent Communication into our work.

I am trained in EMDR and am working towards certification. If you've experienced an upsetting event or trauma and feel like you can't get away from it, EMDR can help.
