My Approach to Helping
It is important to know that we grow up becoming who we needed to be in order to survive. Let that sink in for a minute. What that means is that you're allowed to be who you currently are. You're also allowed to want to better yourself.
My approach to therapy is to meet you where you are, understand your story, and help you reduce the clouds so some sunshine can come in. This involves building a relationship with me where you are the focus. I will make observations, ask questions, and listen genuinely. I will not tell you what to do. I can't. The journey is yours, but I will walk beside you until you feel ready to discover a new path on your own.
When working with clients, I have found that themes of sex and sexuality are often woven into the challenges they are dealing with. I believe it is paramount that patients feel safe to explore and talk about these experiences. Some examples of topics that I am comfortable discussing with you are: sexual addictions, a desire to explore certain lifestyles or fetishes, difficulty with intimacy, feminism, abortion, pregnancy, non-monogamy, sexual abuse, pornography, gender roles, dating, and relationships. Often being able to discuss these topics freely can lead us to grow deeper meaningful experiences beyond the realm of sex. This includes growing stronger friendships, strengthening or repairing family relationships, becoming more comfortable spending time with yourself, and feeling more connected in your community.
