My Approach to Helping
I believe that problems accrue when one becomes out of touch with his or her self and starts to live life on autopilot. A person begins to react to life rather then taking action to shape life, and life sometimes loses meaning and becomes more difficult to manage. This can feel like digging out of a hole with a small spoon. Pain can be part of life, but one does not have to suffer. We get caught up in a routine way of coping with emotional problems without really taking a look to see if these ways are really helpful. Many times a single event shakes a person to a state that they realize that they are not happy and have lost meaning in their life.
I use a mix of Existentialism and Cognitive Behavioral Theory in my practice. The first step is exploring the roots of current imbalances. From there we develop healthy coping tools, implement nurturing behavior modifications, and develop a truthful understanding and softness for ourselves.
