My Approach to Helping
Counseling Philosophy: Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes we need help to move through a transitional time in our lives, to work through a rough patch, or to build skills to better manage day-to-day stressors. I believe therapy works best when you have trust and confidence in your therapist, and one of my roles as a counselor is to build a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, experiences, and feelings. The goal of each session is to learn coping skills, build awareness, encourage self-learning, and inspire independence. I practice affirming, multi-cultural, strength-based, person-centered therapy, and also use elements of family systems therapy, queer theory, relational therapy, and behavioral approaches. I recognize that each client is unique and it\'s important that we find together what works best for you. Whether the journey is long, short, or somewhere in-between, I believe the destination is full of unlimited possibilities.
About Me: I am usually on the go! I love walking around town with my dog, running, yoga, and swimming (I was a competitive swimmer for most of my life). I like to spend time volunteering in my community - whether that\'s helping to organize events like Pride, or making sandwiches for shelters, or working with community-based organizations. Whenever I find time to sit still, I enjoy watching movies, reading books, and trying new restaurants with friends and family.
