Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship.
Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues with your partner?
I am very comfortable working with traditional, poly/open and queer couples/ partners. I can assist you and your partner to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which focuses on creating the emotional safety and understanding for intimacy to flourish. More about how I work with couples in my 'Good Therapy' video, to watch the whole (3-4 minute) video go to my website.
As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to get off the fasting/ feasting cycle and empower them to start creating the life and relationships they want.
Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and Depth Hypnosis. EMDR is a well researched method that has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I have found Depth Hypnosis to be equally effective as EMDR. I also help my clients release trauma using somatic psychotherapies. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch.

As an astrologer I also give astrology readings. Some of my clients find astrology a useful adjunct to their therapy, as it can provide a more transpersonal perspective on an old issue or problem.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Tired of going around in the same old circular arguments? Worse, have you completely stopped communicating with your partner? Do you wonder where the love, trust and intimacy have gone? I work with couples/ partners to get out of the stuck places, negative ruts and reactive arguments faster and more effectively.
I have trained in several of the most effective modalities for helping relationships. The main lens I use is EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) because the research shows that it works.
EFT stands for Emotionally Focused Therapy. It was developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. Two years after couples therapy, studies show that 80% have maintained their gains, and 60% are doing even better! Compare this to other couples therapies, for which these figures are 35% and 20%.
EFT is the only couples therapy to receive the top rating by the American Psychological Association as empirically validated: more than twice as effective, and longer lasting. If this is your relationship then its important to go with the best, try EFT and see for yourself.
Specialist in working with Trauma
I use EMDR, Hypnotherapy and Somatic Psychologies to help my clients move past big and little traumas or PTSD. Call me for more information on how these different modalities might work for you.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
It is very common to be ambivalent about starting therapy! It is hard to talk to a near total stranger about challenging areas in your life. We live in a society that gives us all kinds of alternatives; pop a pill, drink this, eat that... Denial is encouraged! For this reason I have a lot of respect for someone who shows up in my office to address their challenges- this takes a lot of courage and strength.
If you are considering seeing a therapist I recommend setting up a phone consultation first so that your questions and concerns can be addressed. If you feel what I like to call "the click factor" i.e that the therapist understands you and has the skills and expertise to be able to help you then the next step is to set up an initial session.
If you can stomach it I recommend interviewing 2-3 therapists to find the best fit for you. Finding the right therapist is key to a successful outcome for your therapy. For this reason I recommend taking your time and letting yourself be picky!
