As a Health Psychologist I work with people facing a life changing illness such as diabetes, hypertension, IBS problems, chronic pain, cancer and dementia. I also work with caregivers to develop self-care strategies and work through anticipatory grief caring for a loved one. I provide grief counseling for those coping with a loss. More generally I work with people wanting to improve their health and let go of unhealthy behaviors such as over-eating, tobacco use, alcohol or substance abuse. I also work with professional health care providers coping with the overwhelming demands of our medical system, recovering from burnout and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. For over twenty years I worked in a variety of medical settings including inpatient, emergency room, skilled nursing and primary care and I know from my own experience the challenges of working in our medical system. I have also confronted my own health issues, navigating our medical system and finding healing in a combination of modalities including exercise, yoga and meditation.
