My Approach to Therapy

As a Health Psychologist I provide a holistic approach to physical and emotional wellbeing. I believe health challenges such as a life changing diagnosis, chronic illness, or unhealthy habits and the their associated anxiety, stress, depression, trauma and grief need to be addressed on all levels. From more than 20 years experience in clinical practice and my own healing journey I developed a deep appreciation of the interplay of physical and emotional health. My goal is to provide a warm and non-judgemental space where together we will look at the current challenges you face, how past experience continues to affect you today, what values are most important and what living well really means. My work employes strategies for change from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness and Somatic Psychology. Together we will explore your needs, where you may have gotten off track or run into blocks and develop ways to move forward in your life in a meaningful way.

My Practice & Services

I have faced my own health challenges and know first hand the difficulty of a new potentially life changing diagnosis, navigating our imperfect medical system in search of solutions and finding non-traditional healing modalities that help. I have worked in large scale medical systems as a clinician and know first hand the draining demands of overwhelming workloads and its cost in terms of physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. I continue to "walk my talk" working with a variety of healers, maintaining a yoga practice, engaging in regular cardio and functional strength training and mindfulness meditation practice. All this experience informs and enriches my work with clients.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Recent life changing diagnosis, chronic illness, health anxiety, chronic pain, unhealthy habits, caregiver stress and codependency. Anxiety, panic, post-traumatic stress, depression, grief and loss. Medical worker burnout, worklife balance.

Groups I Work With

As a Health Psychologist I work with people facing a life changing illness such as diabetes, hypertension, IBS problems, chronic pain, cancer and dementia. I also work with caregivers to develop self-care strategies and work through anticipatory grief caring for a loved one. I provide grief counseling for those coping with a loss. More generally I work with people wanting to improve their health and let go of unhealthy behaviors such as over-eating, tobacco use, alcohol or substance abuse. I also work with professional health care providers coping with the overwhelming demands of our medical system, recovering from burnout and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. For over twenty years I worked in a variety of medical settings including inpatient, emergency room, skilled nursing and primary care and I know from my own experience the challenges of working in our medical system. I have also confronted my own health issues, navigating our medical system and finding healing in a combination of modalities including exercise, yoga and meditation.
