Mission Viejo is a master-planned community in Orange County, California. The community was designed in 1963 and fully built by 1993.  It has a land area of 18 square miles. 

Mission Viejo has 96,400 inhabitants. The median age of residents is 44 years old. The ethnic composition of the city is 67% white, 17% Hispanic, 10% Asian, and 1% black.

Mental Health in Mission Viejo

Mission Viejo is actively involved in drug abuse prevention. In October 2017, Mission Viejo’s Drug Prevention Coalition (DPC) promoted the “Monitor, Secure and Destroy” campaign. The campaign aimed to reduce prescription drug abuse in the community. 

On October 2, 2017, the DPC disseminated educational pamphlets to local pharmacies, doctors’ offices, and community centers. The pamphlets gave detailed information on the proper disposal of expired or unwanted medication. 

Nineteen days later, the DPC organized the annual Walk Against Drugs event to increase drug awareness. As part of the event, the DPC did demonstrations of proper drug disposal using hot water, kitty litter, and ziplock bags.
