Yorba Linda is a city in Orange County, California. It has a land area of 19 square miles. More than 68,000 people live in the city.

The ethnic composition of Yorba Linda is 61% white, 18% Asian, 17% Hispanic, and 1% black. Nineteen percent of people in Yorba Linda are foreign born. Almost one fourth of residents speak a foreign language at home. There are 4,300 Spanish speakers, 2,500 Chinese speakers, and 1,300 Korean speakers in Yorba Linda. 

CNN Money Magazine has described Yorba Linda as one of the best places to live. Almost one half of city residents over age 25 have a bachelor’s degree. The median household income is $114,000.  

Mental Health in Yorba Linda

According to the chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, “Homelessness (in Orange County) is inextricably linked to mental health and substance abuse problems.” The Orange County Rescue Mission reports that 58% of the people it served from 2016 to 2017 said they had a chemical dependency. Thirty-three percent of homeless individuals self-identified as having a mental health concern.

Orange County is building a new facility to increase residents’ access to mental health care. The facility will offer crisis services, substance abuse treatment, and residential psychiatric care. Officials hope the new facility will alleviate the underlying causes of homelessness in the county.
