Through combining the best of contemporary philosophies with evidence based therapies, clients can address life satisfaction, work performance, modern relationships, gender roles and norms, sexuality, infidelity, spirituality and more.
My experience as a member of the LGBTQ community informs how I help clients learn to live unapologetically and with authenticity in all parts of their lives. Clients also use sessions to learn to let go of bothersome behaviors and overcome emotional wounds.
More Info About My Practice
"I've never known a better counselor. As a heterosexual person I initially sought Troy for just a few sessions to better understand gender identity and sexual orientation issues relative to myself, friends and church, since Troy's reputation precedes him in these areas.
I quickly discovered, however, that he would eagerly listen and thoughtfully help with all hurts and fears to include compulsive behaviors, professional issues, goals, family issues, dating and being true to who I am. The few sessions turned into long-term life-changing therapy .
His manner, expertise, and personality are superb, and he possesses incredibly wide-ranging empathy and wisdom. I have never conversed with someone so flexible, intelligent and engaged as Troy."
My Therapy Focus
Therapy sessions are a space for you and I to construct a therapeutic partnership that allows you to gain clarity into your greatest concerns and to create lasting change in how you think, connect, and self-actualize.
Through a humanistic understanding of belief systems and behavioral conditioning, we will reconstruct experiences and relationships from a present perspective clarifying how past experiences are brought forth in your present life and end the cause and effect link between past experiences and present life.
In each session, I will coach you in the practice of changing harmful thought patterns and behaviors, by constructing a new narrative about your past, present, and future life.
My psychodynamic and goal oriented approach, informed by Adlerian Psychology, places you at the center of your life, and allows us to identify how you see yourself in current relational, social, and cultural contexts. It is common that all of us have some inaccurate assumptions in our thinking and perspectives on life and held over from what we learned in our early lives.
These patterns directly inform how we think, what we do, and how we feel in the present. Many believe that which was imprinted on them as a young child is unalterable, because "I have always been this way." Yet, through a goal oriented understanding of these patterns, we are able to reconstruct our current problems and see clearly the path forward.
Come prepared to focus more on the present and future, rather than the past. Our patterns of the past have a way of letting go on their own when we don't need them anymore.
