My Approach to Helping
Everyone has ups and downs, but when you have more downs than ups, or you feel your life is overwhelming or out of balance, it probably is time to get some help. I love to help people recognize their strengths and support them to find solutions to troublesome problems.
My belief that we each have inner and outer gifts and resources, whether we recognize them or not, guides my life and my work as a therapist. Whether you are overwhelmed with anxiety, worried about a family member's hoarding, feeling depressed, or have conflict with a spouse, family member, or co-worker, you can clear your way to feeling better, and do more of whatever really makes your life worth living.
More Info About My Practice
I work with individuals, adult families and couples, to improve communication, develop more satisfying relationships and heal old hurts. I use an integrative approach, drawing from a variety of techniques, life experiences and creative methods. These include (but aren't limited to) using art materials, attention to physical sensations, action methods, role playing and various forms of journal keeping. No previous experience with any method is needed.
I am an approved provider with Regence insurance, as well as an out of network provider for many other companies. Due to privacy and other concerns, some people do not wish to use insurance. Please call me to discuss your concerns.
My Role as a Therapist
A lot of different ideas exist about the role of a therapist. People are usually suffering when they choose to see a therapist. I see my role as first a witness to that suffering, and a mirror of your basic wholeness; and then a coach to make and implement a plan for change; and always a midwife for transformation and change. Improving your well-being is our primary purpose in therapy, and so we work together to find what works for you.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
My own life struggles make be a better therapist, teaching me to respect the rhythms of life and be compassionate toward all living things. I especially support those who struggle with pain, health, family conflict, and hoarding behaviors in themselves or family members.
