My Approach to Helping

My approach to therapy is caring, curious, and collaborative. I work with my clients to explore how their experiences shape their understanding of themselves and their place in the world. In doing so, I help my clients become aware of the patterns that limit their ability to fully embody their authentic selves.

I work with teens and adults on issues including identity development and self-actualization, toxic shame, life transitions, existential anxiety, climate anxiety, and the search for meaning. With couples and families, my work focuses on improving communication and fostering an emotional connection to create relationships in which the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts.

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation via Zoom so that I can answer any other questions you might have, or just to say hello and see if it seems like a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

I don't view my clients through a lens of "disorders." Many "disorders" are actually just differences - normal variations on the human experience. Others are coping strategies that made sense when they were learned, but are no longer useful. Some are habits, others are trauma responses. Underneath them all is a person who is using the tools that are available to them to manage the deeply strange experience of being alive, conscious, and human at this particular time in history.

Groups I Work With

I believe that the "fit" between therapist and client is the most important determinant of positive outcomes, and I work with clients of all races, ethnicities, genders, orientations, and identities. Because my outlook is humanist and secular, my politics tend to be progressive, and I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, clients with similar values tend to be an easier fit. However, I also have clients whose outlook is not aligned with my own, and with those clients, mutual growth can arise from that difference. I welcome "seekers" of all stripes.
