Mental Health in Manhattan Beach

Mental health among inmates is a concern for Los Angeles County officials. Over 20% of inmates have a mental health concern. Whenever an inmate needs to be escorted to and from a clinical appointment, two deputies need to be taken off regular duty to provide security.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office is seeking funding to hire 160 more deputies. The Sheriff’s Office hopes to create dedicated medical transport teams to serve the county’s 17,000 inmates.
