Mental Health in Redondo Beach

A tax paid by wealthy California residents has assisted many mental health programs in the state. Proposition 63, also known as the Mental Health Service Act, requires state residents who earn more than $1 million annually to pay a 1% tax to support mental health services in California. Roughly $2 billion is raised each year. Health officials believe Proposition 63 is having a positive impact and allows vulnerable populations to access the care they need.

This funding increased access to mental health care to almost 130,000 people in Los Angeles County. Many individuals who benefited were from poor and/or minority communities. The initiative has also helped reduce incarceration, hospitalization, and homelessness in the county.
