My Approach to Helping

I work with adults who have been impacted by trauma and want to move "past the past" to be more successful in their lives and relationships. You may feel like you are repeating the same patterns in your life; having the same fights with your partner, feeling disconnected with your children or a lack of grounding in your job or relationships. You may feel anger that the things that happened in the past are still impacting you. As adults, we are often re-triggered by the things that happened in the past, even in childhood. If this sounds like you, I may be able to help.

I specialize in EMDR and Trauma Focused CBT interventions to help adults get "unstuck" from repeated patterns in their lives. This is "counselor talk" for focusing on how our memories can trigger us in the present and work to address those memories at a brain level as a means of moving forward.

I love working with clients to increase their feelings of safety and stability, and to improve their brain and emotional health. I'd love to get a chance to talk to you about the specifics of this type of therapy. Let's connect and see how we can work together to meet your goals. Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

When I say that I work with trauma, this can make you think of certain images. You may think, "that doesn't apply to me" or "what happened to me is not THAT bad". While trauma can be those "Big T" events such as an assault or terrifying incident, it can also encompass those "Little T" events that can have a measurable impact on your life. Our brains cannot differentiate between the "big ticket" traumas and ongoing smaller traumas. Many of the clients I work with have lasting impacts from childhood based that could stem from growing up with a parent with mental health or substance abuse issues, experiencing bullying at school, feeling disconnected from their parents, or feeling they did not have a healthy model of adult functioning in their lives. I use EMDR therapy and trauma focused interventions to address both the "Big T" and "Small T" traumas as a means of helping clients feel and function better in their current lives.
