My Approach to Helping

Is your child having behavioral difficulties? Children often communicate their emotions, both positive and negative, with behaviors. Unwanted behaviors often occur when children have already used all their coping skills and no longer know how to handle conflict. I offer a specialized approach to reshaping behaviors using a combination of expressive arts and behavior modification interventions. I address each child’s unique challenges with an individualized perspective that includes the entire family system. I am able to assess and interpret the expression of the child and use it to foster change.

More Info About My Practice

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am trained in EMDR, Applied Behavioral Analysis, and Play Therapy. I have delivered mental health treatment with children for over ten years. My experience includes working within the public school systems by developing and implementing behavioral plans for children who are at risk of being removed from the school setting. I used Applied Behavioral Analysis providing in-home services for children diagnosed with developmental disabilities. For over three years, I have provided outpatient therapy to children with extensive trauma, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. I also specializes in counseling children suffering from chronicterminal illness.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I specialize in working with children who have a chronic or terminal illness by providing a safe environment to openly express internal experiences. Children often appear brave as a way to not only cope with their illness but to protect their families. Counseling is an outlet to receive support during a time of hopelessness.

I have extensive experience providing mental health treatment to children who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and another developmental delays. I am trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis, which is an evidenced based approach to managing behaviors within the home, school, and community.

I also specialize in working with children who have experienced trauma. I use an holistic approach to address all areas of need after a child has experienced a trauma. I use a combination of CBT, EMDR, and play therapy to assist a child with overcoming traumatic experiences.
