My Approach to Helping
Things happen in the right therapy relationship that are hard to put into words. The experience can surprise us.
In our therapy relationship, there is room for your most authentic, evolving self (all parts). There is the opportunity to understand and embrace your deepest needs and wishes. As together we learn more about the deepest you, I'll support your own wisdom and insights to surface which begin moving you toward change and growth at a pace that fits you. It is my intention to listen deeply and without judgment, and offer the thoughts and questions that invite these insights and discoveries. I'll support your courage to try new approaches to old patterns of behavior and thinking, born of wounds and fear, that are maintaining strife. It's easy to feel isolated when you're struggling, but feeling fully accepted and deeply known in therapy can allow that feeling of 'being alone in it' to fade and invite a deeper sense of belonging in the world.
I work with individuals and couples and have a special interest in parenting special needs and high need children and how this changes our relationship with ourselves and others. Most often I work with clients for several years or more. I draw on several therapeutic schools of thought; psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, existential and humanistic, but am led by you, the client in front of me and the discoveries we make together.
