My Approach to Helping
I provide individual psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in an inviting, private, and relaxed environment, designed to be a contemplative and safe space. I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) while I continue my training in this therapeutic modality. I invite you to inquire about how EMDR can change your life and how you can receive this mode of therapy my client.
My style of practice is client-centered and tailored to the unique needs of each person. Your voice will be heard and listened to with an emphasis on care, compassion, and confidentiality. Mindfulness-based techniques are also used to increase a person's self-compassion and self-acceptance. These attributes are very helpful as an individual begins the work toward enhancing present relationships and life circumstances and creating a new and more joyful future. This type of therapeutic approach engages me, as psychotherapist or analyst. and you, as the patient, in a respectful, empathic, and cooperative alliance , where trust develops and healing follows.
More Info About My Practice
I treat a variety of mental health issues which are often born out of unsatisfying or disappointing early relationships or trauma. Early trauma or disappointments can leave an individual feeling unworthy or unlovable, directionless or hopeless, angry or disillusioned. I am committed to exploring all aspects of my patients' lives, with the intention of building upon their strengths and understanding and working on perceived vulnerabilities. I offer flexibility with regard to scheduling appointments in order to accommodate work and school limitations. If need be, I employ a sliding scale that is individually negotiated. While I am not committed to any insurance network, I am happy to complete appropriate forms to facilitate fee-reimbursement from particular insurance carriers.
I am accepting analytic patients for those individuals who desire analysis. Those clients who are candidates for analysis must have the flexibility of schedule to accommodate 4 sessions per week.
My training in EMDR allows me to accept new clients who prefer this method of therapy. EMDR can treat many issues. The cases I take on while in training will have the added benefit of my receiving consultation and supervision with a faculty training expert in EMDR. While EMDR was developed as an evidenced-based treatment for trauma, it can be used successfully to treat anxiety, phobias, depression, and relational/behavioral issues. From my perspective, most of the psychological and relational problems for which children and adults seek treatment are born out of some type of trauma, whether it be rooted in issues experienced in childhood or from loss, disappointments, or trauma experienced throughout all stages in life.
When necessary, I will do distance counseling and psychotherapy for my established clients via the telephone or 'Skype'.
