My Approach to Helping

Because each one of us is complicated and unique; to best meet the individual needs of each client, I integrate multiple, therapeutic modalities in my practice. That said, I find that I most frequently draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness in my work with individuals and Emotionally Focused Therapy and Structural Therapy in my work with couples and families. Throughout my work, I use biological neuroscience as my north star, because we are all just "fancy primates" trying to thrive in an increasingly complicated and disconnected world.

While science helps us to understand how and why suffering is alleviated through therapy, using this knowledge to foment positive change in our lives is an interpersonal practice; an art. From day one, I am transparent with my clients about how their brains work (e.g. the science) and why I am asking them to engage in a certain exercise or dive into a specific thought or feeling (e.g. the art). Knowledge is power and my goal is to empower my clients to not only reach their goals in therapy but to develop the insight, wisdom, and skill necessary to enhance all aspects of their lives.

More Info About My Practice

While we can increasingly understand human suffering through science, healing human pain and fostering human joy is truly an art. What's more, as deeply social creatures, it takes a village to create an environment in which human beings can thrive. For these reasons, when I am not seeing clients, I am incredibly honored to lead the Healing Arts Program at Code and Canvas, a warm and creative space where artists, technologists, and scientists come together to feed our need to be creative and to collaborate with the people around us. The result is an inclusive and healing community focused on doing whatever we can to connect with and serve the greater community. As a psychotherapist among artists and technologists, I have the unique opportunity to leverage the health benefits of art in my work with individuals, couples, and families, who love coming to Code and Canvas for their weekly sessions.
