My Approach to Helping

As a warm, supportive and interactive therapist, I work collaboratively with you to meet your specific individual needs. I see my role as that of a caring, supportive guide with professional expertise and training to help you live in more fulfilling ways and break free from stuck patterns. By creating an atmosphere of safety and trust I help you feel comfortable sharing your more vulnerable thoughts and feelings. This exploration often provides a sense of release, comfort and increased understanding of your experience. By understanding how your experience makes sense in its particular context we can work together to change ways of being that are no longer serving you, move through painful feelings like fear and isolation, deepen understanding of relational dynamics, enhance self awareness, become grounded in your truest self, and develop more effective tools for coping and communicating.

As a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT), I help couples understand their negative cycles of interaction, and what these patterns are really about in terms of unmet emotional needs and vulnerable feelings. By facilitating different ways of communicating these feelings and needs to each other, I work to help you and your partner enhance your sense of trust, intimacy and security so that you can each feel more cared for and connected within your most important relationship.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Through my training as an Eating Disorder Specialist as well as a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, and most recently as an EMDR trauma therapist, I have developed a specialization in helping people more fully understand why they are struggling with certain patterns and how to change ways of being that are getting in the way of feeling more content, fulfilled, and connected to themselves and others. Often what keeps us stuck or unhappy is rooted in old ways of coping that helped us feel safe and protected, but that are no longer helpful.

These old patterns can cause emotional suffering, feelings of disconnection in close relationships, and difficulty progressing professionally. Emotionally processing life experiences that formed these coping patterns with a trusted, trained professional allows feelings that are perhaps too scary or painful to face alone become more fully integrated so that you can then make room for new, more meaningful, and helpful ways of being. I am grateful to be able to help people change these stuck places in order to have more satisfying emotional lives, relationships, and careers.
