My Approach to Helping
It takes bravery and strength to begin the first step towards healing. Oftentimes, reaching out is the hardest but most important step as it exemplifies awareness and the courage to make a change.
Hi there! My name is Alyssa Zurowski. I am a Board Certified Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Family and Child Studies from Northern Illinois University and my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy through the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.
I have experience working in several different clinical settings including residential substance abuse and mood disorders, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient in both non-profit and private facilities. I have worked with individuals (adolescents 15+ and adults), couples, and families as well as have experience treating clients in a group therapy setting. My eclectic background has given me the opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life, backgrounds, and experiences. I feel that having the ability to work in these different areas has allowed me to grow personally and professionally as a therapist.
I enjoy utilizing a collaborative and client-driven approach that allows you, the client, to gain new insight; and skills to better manage symptoms throughout the course of your lifetime. I believe that therapy is not a “one size fits all” approach. I truly enjoy the collaborative and individualized process of discussing goals and creating a treatment plan that fits you! My experience includes treating individuals with Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Adjustment Disorder, Personality Traits, Substance Dependence, Bipolar Disorder, Disruptive Mood Disorder, and relational issues.
While I have experience treating several diagnoses, I am especially passionate about working with men on men’s issues, working with couples struggling to connect and communicate, as well as working with Transitional Aged Youth (TAY age 16-24) navigate the transition to adulthood.
I utilize several treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing, and Family Systems Approach. With couples, I use Gottman Couples Therapy.
I look forward to potentially being a small part of such an important journey!
