My Approach to Helping
I am currently on staff at IntraSpectrum Counseling as a Therapist and believe the foundation for long-lasting, meaningful growth lies in self-compassion, the removal of shame, and finding an empowering purpose. My goal as a therapist is to provide an LGBTQIA+ affirming safe space within which to be vulnerable and authentic, and to bring humor and empathy to the challenging work of each session. My practice is filtered through a strengths-based and feminist lens, and I actively promote anti-racism, body empowerment, dismantling diet culture, and sex- and kink- positivity. As a trauma survivor, living with depression and anxiety, I seek to incorporate evidence-based interventions with warmth, passion, and hope.
My experience is working with individuals, children and adolescents, and couples and families. I have received training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Narrative Therapy, and trauma processing. Areas of specialization include the intersection of LGBTQIA+ issues and eating and feeding disorders, complex trauma, grief and loss, gender and sexuality exploration, mood and anxiety disorders, skill acquisition for emotional regulation and coping, and body-based somatic interventions.
Prior to working at IntraSpectrum Counseling, I completed my clinical internship with "Thresholds Young Adult Program" here in Chicago, providing direct client care to folx within the criminal justice system who struggled with severe mental health concerns and homelessness. I moved to Hawaii for a year (winters in the Midwest are hard!) and worked for "Easter Seals." There I provided Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based behavioral therapy with children on the Autism Spectrum. Upon my return to Chicago, I worked at "Eating Recovery Center" for almost 3 years, providing individual, family (of choice and origin)couples, and group therapy for folx in residential and partial hospitalization levels of care struggling with eating and feeding disorders. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University in my home state of Michigan; I earned my Master’s Degree (M.A.) from Adler University here in Chicago. I currently lives in the city of Chicago with two fluffy cats and far too many plants.
*I am currently awaiting approval to take the examination for clinical licensure (LCPC).
